What is Dysport and How does it Compare to Botox?

Botox is among the most popular cosmetic treatments available. Highly regarded for its abilities to freeze fine lines and wrinkles in their tracks, this injectable has developed incredible name recognition in just a few short decades. However, this treatment isn’t the only one available for patients looking to look younger. Since its FDA approval in 2009, Dysport has quickly become a popular alternative to Botox for patients, giving the name brand a run for its money.

Dysport vs. Botox – Is there a Difference?

Fundamentally, Dysport and Botox are more similar than different. Both injectables are derived from botulinum toxin type A, a bacteria by-product that has been successfully used as a medical solution to temporomandibular joint disorder and overactive sweat glands. When used for cosmetic purposes, the toxin helps put the aging process on pause by temporarily paralyzing underlying muscles of the face and preventing them from contracting and from creating additional lines or creases.

When it comes to results, Dysport tends to offer noticeable results within a day of treatment, making it slightly faster than its counterpart. Similarly, the effects of Dysport can remain noticeable up to six months following treatment, a jump from the three to four months Botox patients usually have between visits.

The most significant differences between the two are the formula concentration and their structural make up, factors which lead to different patient experiences in achieving the same results. Botox molecules are structurally larger than Dysport, making them ideal for precise application in specific parts of the face. In contrast, Dysport molecules are smaller, allowing the injectables to disperse over a greater area after it has been administered. For patients looking to correct wrinkles affecting larger areas such as the forehead or crow’s feet, this dispersion makes it possible to achieve ideal results with less injections.

The Ideal Dysport Candidate

Given the vast similarities between the two options, any patient who is a candidate for Dysport injections is eligible for Botox. Whether you’re looking to take a preventive approach to aging or are trying to slow the development of wrinkles, Dysport is an excellent, non-surgical solution to removing creases and wrinkles. Likewise, the fast treatment sessions and minimal recovery time have made Dysport a popular option for patients who do not have the time to wait for surgical enhancements.

Let Freedom Ring! Free Yourself from Wrinkles

You deserve to look and feel your absolute best! At Abadir Associates, that’s our main goal: to help enhance the beauty that you already have.

Unfortunately, no one is “safe” from the aging process. Sure, getting older beats the alternative, but there’s no rule or law that states our faces have to reveal the year in which we were born. Right now, life is all about making choices . . . so why not make the choice to free yourself from wrinkles?

If you’ve landed on this page, then you’re well aware of what wrinkles are – those pesky creases and folds in the skin that seem to randomly appear when we’re least expecting them. From sun exposure and smoking, to animated facial expressions and unfair genetics, wrinkles form from a variety of reasons.

But now it’s time to take back your skin!

When it comes to fighting wrinkles, a range of treatment options are available, depending on your specific wants and needs. If you make the decision to schedule a consultation with Dr. Abadir, the two of you will work closely together to build a treatment plan for your unique skin. After all, no two people are the exact same, meaning no two treatments plans will be identical, either.

While many believe the only way to effectively treat wrinkles is with the use of fillers or Botox (which do work), topical creams are still an option for those who want something a little less invasive. It’s necessary to pick a cream that contains antioxidants, retinol, and/or coenzyme Q10. Even with these ingredients, though, note that results from these products are not permanent solutions.

For those who are searching for something a little more long-lasting, injection treatments may be a more appropriate option. Botox and Dysport treatments commonly last for 3 to 4 months, in which the muscles below the wrinkled skin are prevented from contracting.

Further, fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are available to “refill” the skin, while chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, and even face lifts have proven to be successful for hundreds of different patients.

Beauty is subjective. What makes you feel beautiful? Contact Abadir Associates today to schedule a consultation. Wrinkles may be inevitable, but fighting them is always a possibility!

What Is a Cupid’s Bow? Do I Want One?

Cupid is famous for shooting arrows with his bow and causing his victims to fall in love. A Cupid’s bow on the face refers to the upper lip. The double curves of the philtral columns give the lip a bow-like appearance. Ideally a Cupid’s bow will have natural looking volume, good symmetry, and definition. We’ll help you achieve your ideal lip by using our deep knowledge of facial anatomy and the latest aesthetic techniques to enhance your natural beauty.

What Are My Options for Perfecting My Lips?

If your lips fall a bit short of perfection, we can help. We offer a variety of options for perfecting your lips. Schedule a consultation to discuss your options and to receive personalized treatment advice. Injections are one of our most popular lip treatments. Unlike a synthetic implant, injections require no surgery and no downtime. Results are very natural looking.

  • Botox and Dysport- Smooth fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth with Botox or Dysport. These injectable solutions work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. This allows the skin to smooth out from underneath and the wrinkles to fade away. You’ll need just one treatment to start enjoying the results which last about four months per treatment. When injected by a skilled injector like Dr. Abadir, results are very natural looking. Botox and Dysport are non-invasive, affordable, and require no downtime.
  • Lip Fillers– Add volume to the lips without the need for a synthetic implant. Injectable fillers offer fast and natural looking results. Best of all, they require no downtime and have very few side effects. Fillers are also less painful and invasive than surgery. We carry a wide range of fillers allowing us to customize your treatment including Juvederm  and Restylane.

How Long After Treatment Will I See Results?

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, but you still have time to perfect your lips before the big day. Many women notice immediate change after a filler treatment. Botox and Dysport show results in just 1-2 days. You may have a bit of swelling or redness right after treatment, but this typically resolves quickly. Since these injectable treatment require no downtime, you can come in on your lunch and head right back to work after treatment.

We can’t guarantee that Cupid’s arrow will strike you this Valentine’s Day, but we do know that with the right injectables you will fall in love with your lips. Call and book your treatments today!

How to Achieve the Perfect Valentine’s Day Look with Injectables

abadir-986

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and you want to look your best for your true love. Of course, you can revamp your wardrobe, redo your hair, or even change your makeup routine; but wouldn’t it be better if you can change your look down to the smallest details? This romantic holiday calls for a complete transformation—one that’s as natural and long-lasting as possible. Abadir Associates is here to tell you how to achieve the perfect Valentine’s Day look.

GIVE YOURSELF A LIFT (NON SURGICAL)!

The latest trend in injections are two products which, when injected into the upper area of the cheeks, usually along the cheekbones, not only replace some of the volume we all loose with age, but actually significantly LIFT!

These products are Restylane’s “LYFT” and Juvederm’s “VOLUMA”.   Very different from the original Restylane and Juvederm, they are more “robust” and able when injected in the appropriate sites, to actually give an immediate and noticeable lifting of the cheeks, thus improving laugh lines and the lower cheeks. Placement varies according to the particular patient. The amount of “filling” is not excessive (each syringe only contains 1cc—a fifth of a teaspoon—most patients use 1 or 2!).  However the effect is instant, pleasing, giving you a more youthful appearance. Give yourself the gift of Voluma or Lyft!

Botox, Dysport and Xeomin

These neuromodulators are all similar and contain botulin toxin Type A. When injected into a muscle, they weaken, or completely prevent, that muscle’s contraction. Where the muscle in causing the development of undesirable lines or expression, such as frowning, the result is aesthetically pleasing.

Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are the only three FDA-approved neuromodulators, although more could soon be approved. Drs. Dale and Michelle Abadir have been injecting Botox for over 20 years and have vast experience.

Lesser known Dysport and Xeomin have similar actions. Dysport takes effect a little faster, and Xeomin has no protein. While this is usually insignificant, on rare occasions patients have developed antibodies to the proteins in Botox and Dysport. These antibodies destroy the product when injected, making it ineffective (the same way antibodies to disease-causing viruses and bacteria will kill them).

Drs. Dale and Michelle Abadir will discuss with you the various types of neuromodulators, benefits and likely duration (which varies depending on which muscles they are used in), and recommend the best for you!

You want to look mature, without looking old. Fortunately, cutting-edge dermatology centers like Abadir Associates have you covered with their dozens of cosmetic and medical dermatological treatments.

Treatments for Two Weeks Before Your Reunion

Juvederm

You want your new self to look effortless, but with this easy treatment it really might be. Juvederm is an injectable, meaning it’s injected into the skin to smooth out wrinkles, creases, and create volume in the face. It’s also used to plump lips and fill in sagging areas of the face and eye sockets.

Procedure: You will get a series of injections of the solution, which will be done after around 10 minutes.

Recovery: You might see some swelling for up to two weeks.

Lasts: for about 6 months.

Botox & Dysport

Botox & Dysport are some of the quickest, safest, and most popular ways to get rid of expression lines and deep wrinkles.

Procedure: It’s only a series of small injections, which should be done in less than 10 minutes

Recovery: Almost none

Lasts: 2-4 months

Treatments for a Month Before Your Reunion

IPL Photofacial

Here’s the light side to laser skin treatments: IPL uses pulses of light to treat brown spots, facial veins and capillaries, redness, rosacea and signs of aging.

Procedure: Depending on your type of skin, a series of sessions 2-4 weeks apart is recommended.

Recovery: There is no downtime, but if you do get residual redness it may last for up to a week after treatment.

Treatments for Two Months Before Your Reunion

Sometimes you want your newer, younger skin to be entirely yours. No worries, there a lot of skin rejuvenation procedures that renew the skin using the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion works by physically removing outer layers of skin along with dead skin, oils, and other imperfections. When the skin grows back, you’ll notice improvements in your acne scars, wrinkles, chicken pox scars, lesions and so much more.

Procedure: You will be given a numbing agent or anesthesia to help with any kind of discomfort. Then a device combined with a freezing technique will work on one small area at a time

Recovery: After 7-14 days your wounds should fully heal and after 6 weeks any residual redness should be gone.

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels work similarly to dermabrasion, but instead, it uses chemicals to blister and peel the outer layers of skin. Chemical peels can improve skin tone, reduce wrinkles, acne scars, and signs of sun damage. There are actually a wide variety of chemical peels:

  • Micropeels: perfect for mild skin conditions like hyperpigmentation.
  • Dermaplaning: couple this with a light peel to create glowing skin and remove annoying peach fuzz.
  • Facial with Light Chemical Peel: make sure your skin is hydrated with this combo facial and light peel.
  • Acne Clearing Facial: made specially to help with acne and acne scars.

Recovery: Your skin will feel like it’s been sunburned for a few days, and the stronger the peel, the longer your recovery.

After these treatments, your high school reunion photos will look like a high school graduation. These treatments and more will be available to you at Abadir Associates, so contact them now for a consultation.

Neuromodulators: Botox and Dysport

Fade crow’s feet and frown lines with Botox. A powerful neuromodulator, this injectable temporarily halts muscle activity that causes certain types of wrinkles. Results appear just a few days after treatment and last 3-4 months. We also offer Dysport, a similar injectable treatment.

Our patients love Botox and Dysport for their ease. The treatment itself takes about 15 minutes, start to finish, and you can resume your regular activities immediately. Come in for treatment during your lunch and still have time to grab a bite to eat on your way back to work. No downtime!

Dermal Fillers: Juvederm, Restylane, Sculptra, etc.

Fill in wrinkles and smooth out your skin with dermal fillers. These injectable fillers can sculpt, shape, and contour with effective results. Dermal fillers can also fill in lines and wrinkles and augment the lips. We even use them for hand rejuvenation. Results are often instant and can last as long as two years, depending on the fillers used.

We offer a wide range of fillers, including several hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the skin. It is very biocompatible and doesn’t require pre-treatment testing. During your initial visit we’ll examine your skin and make recommendations on the best filler options for you. Fillers can be used on their own, combined with other fillers, paired with Botox/Dysport, and even used in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments.

Fat Dissolvers- Kybella

For the dreaded double chin, we offer an exciting injectable option, Kybella. This injectable contains deoxycholic acid, a substance that aids the body in the breakdown of dietary fat. When injected under the chin it destroys fat cells, providing lasting improvement in the appearance of your profile.

Kybella is completely non-surgical. Downtime is minimal, if any. Most patients need a couple of treatments to achieve their best results.

What Type of Lip Treatments Are Available? Which One Is Right for Me?

If your lips have thinned with age (or if you just want a fuller lip), we have a variety of treatment options available and surgery isn’t needed. Take a look at your lip enhancement options below and call us to schedule your appointment. The results are natural looking, full, sensuous, and youthful, just like you want your lips to be. MWAH!

Lip Injections: A Non-Surgical Alternative to Implants?

Lip implants aren’t for everyone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy fuller lips. Lip injections are a cost effective and less invasive way to fill in and perfect the lips. Yes, the results are temporary, but many of the treatments take just a few minutes and the results are long lasting. Plus, injectable treatments don’t require incisions or a painful recovery period.

If you’ve got questions about lip injections, ask us. We’d love to help you understand how these treatments can help you enhance your lips without surgery.

Botox and Dysport

Many of the lines and wrinkles around the mouth are caused by muscle activity. Botox and Dysport can relax these muscles. The wrinkles fade away leaving you with a younger looking appearance. Results can last up to 4 months per treatment. Botox isn’t just for crow’s feet; it’s a great option for the lips.

Botox and Dysport are both a type of botulinum toxin. This cosmetic treatment is very popular; last year about 6.7 million cosmetic treatments were performed.

Lip Fillers

Dermal fillers are another option for enhancing the lips. We can use fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, and to sculpt the lips, fill in hollows, and lift the skin. Results are often immediate and can last for up to a year.

We offer a variety of different filler options to ensure natural looking, stunning results for each patient. Each filler has a different consistency. We’ll choose the best filler (or combination of fillers) for your problem areas and sculpt your lips to perfection. We also offer a permanent lip filler for interested patients.

Surgical Corrections

As the body ages some changes to the lips require surgical correction. We can remove the overhanging skin at the corners of the mouth and shorten the distance between the nose the upper lip (this distance increases with age) for a more youthful look.

Which Option is Right for Me?

With so many options available, it can be difficult to choose a treatment option. Come in and talk with us. We can help you decide which lip injections will help you meet your goals. Call us today at 914-937-7593 and book your appointment today.

Westchester Dermatologists Explain Common Cosmetic Procedures

Corrective skin care treatments can help patients overcome cosmetic challenges and feel more comfortable in their skin. However, knowing which procedure is right for a specific skin care challenge can be confusing. In fact, two patients with the same condition may not necessarily be given the same treatment. This is due to the fact that producing positive results in cosmetic dermatology requires taking an individualized approach.

To help patients better understand available skin care treatments, Westchester dermatologists from Abadir Associates have put together answers to some commonly asked skin care questions:

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are different brands of botulinium toxin type A, which are very similar, though not the exact same. Cosmetic dermatologists use them to treat wrinkles, including frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines and even vertical neck bands. Both injection treatments are non-invasive and help relax the muscles. Even a small amount of either can help improve lip lines, lift the corners of the mouth, and smooth the chin. A major difference, is that some patients see results more quickly with Dysport than with Botox. Which treatment you ultimately choose will depend on your consultation with your cosmetic dermatologist.

What are filling injections used for?

Filling injections, such as Restylane, Juvederm, Sculptra and Radiesse, do exactly what their name implies: they “fill.” They are often used to fill smile lines, undereye circles, lines at the sides of the chin, and hollows – and they can even be combined with Botox or Dysport treatments for patients with extra deep frown lines. Most fillers last from 6 months to more than a year. However, some patients also have the option for permanent filling injections. To find out whether you are a candidate for this type of treatment, talk to one of Abadir Associates’ qualified Westchester dermatologists.

What is Thermage?

Thermage is a treatment that is used to tighten skin without surgery. It has become increasingly popular over the past years due to vast improvements in the technology. Thermage does not fill wrinkles or relax muscles, but it does help patients see more successful results with Botox and filling injections, as both treatments work much better when the skin is tighter and firmer. Thermage can be used anywhere on the body, including the face and neck, eyelids, hands, thighs , knees, arms, buttocks and abdomen. All tighten significantly with Thermage, and with minimal downtime. Additionally, the treatment can be used in conjunction with “mini liposuction” of jowls and under chin fat.

What are lasers used for in cosmetic skin care?

There are many types of lasers. Some are specific for removing prominent blood vessels, tattoos and dark pigment. Meanwhile, others are used for reducing unwanted hair and removing skin discolorations, fine lines and scarring. At Abadir Associates, we have a variety of lasers for different problems. If you think you could benefit from this technology, ask us and we’ll guide you through it.

Is there a treatment for removing sun or age spots?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a safe and effective treatment that is used to treat sun spots, age spots, and other skin care issues like Rosacea. It can reduce or eliminate the need for make up by making the skin a more even tone, and it can even contribute to a more youthful, creamy complexion. Ask us about IPL and whether it can help your current skin care problem.
