Why Choose Permanent Makeup?

What is Permanent Makeup?

permanent makeup new yorkPermanent makeup (also known as “cosmetic tattooing” or “micropigmentation”) is growing as a popular choice for women who want to define their facial features without having to apply traditional makeup throughout the day. The procedure is short and involves the delicate insertion of pigments into the top layer of your skin with a needle. Results are natural and long-lasting so you may find yourself storing away your makeup brushes and tools after choosing permanent makeup. Permanent makeup comes in a variety of different applications:

  • For top and bottom eyeliner
  • For eyebrows
  • For the lips – including lip liner and full color
  • For the areola after breast reconstruction surgery

Am I a Candidate for Permanent Makeup?

A major reason why so many women are choosing permanent makeup is that it’s a solution for a variety of issues. It can be used to as a permanent “scar camouflage” to repigment discolored scars so that they match the surrounding skin. Men who have areas of facial hair loss from scarring or other causes can also benefit from permanent makeup. The tattooing fills in these areas with small dark dots to give a shaved beard appearance. It’s an excellent choice for those who just want better defined, face-framing features with permanent cosmetics. If you want to add volume and thicken up faint eyebrows, have a health condition that keeps you from applying makeup with a steady hand, or want to cover up a scar or skin discoloration, permanent makeup can help. Permanent makeup may be right for you if you have:

  • Hair loss problems or are experiencing thinning hair
  • Discolored scars
  • Sensitivity to cosmetic makeup
  • Poor vision or mobility that makes applying makeup difficult

The cosmetic technique is suitable for nearly all skin types and can be performed on anyone age 18 or older. The Abadir & Associates team is specially trained and has years of experience with permanent makeup. We take a personalized approach with each client. Schedule a consultation with us to learn more about the technique and to see if it’s the best makeup application for you.

Westchester Dermatologist Offers New Neck Lift Surgery Alternative

RYE BROOK, NY, May 22, 2013 /PressRelease/ —Abadir Associates, a Westchester County cosmetic dermatology clinic that specializes in combining treatments for optimal results, is offering a new technique designed to smooth and thicken thin skin on the neck.  The practice has successfully treated multiple patients over the past year and seen dramatic results.

“Basically, [this approach] is for women who want to do everything but a neck lift,” says Westchester dermatologist Dr. Michelle Abadir of Abadir Associates.  “It allows you to add another method to thicken up the neck skin, which can be difficult.”  Normal aging may cause the skin of the neck to become thinner, bumpy, and nodular as well as to lose elasticity – thus allowing it to take on a “crepe-y” appearance.  By addressing these issues with one treatment program, she can offer patients a stronger result without needing to resort to surgical techniques.

The treatment program involves combining the dermal filler Sculptra with wrinkle-releaser Botox and skin-tightening treatment Thermage to combine the benefits of all three.  Additionally, Dr. Abadir is the only dermatologist who offers diluted Sculptra treatments for a significantly more natural result.  By diluting the injectable down to one-quarter its usual strength (and gradually increasing the concentration every few months as the treatment progresses), Dr. Abadir is able to combine Sculptra perfectly with Botox and Thermage.

The program can be customized to suit each patient, and many may choose to combine Sculptra with only Botox or only Thermage.  Dr. Abadir reports that her favorite treatment plan involves all three in a sequence designed to improve skin quality (this is an approximation of the schedule, individual needs may vary):

  • Week 1: Botox
  • Week 3: Sculptra
  • Week6: Thermage
  • Week 9: Sculptra
  • Week 15: Sculptra

Patients following this plan see thicker neck skin with less wrinkling and no nodules.  They also report high levels of satisfaction with their treatment and their results.

Thermage Before After

Dr. Abadir offers additional advice to her patients seeking to keep their skin healthy and maintain their treatment results.  “Anything you do – no matter what you do – a good skincare regimen should always include a retinoid, a c-serum, a growth peptide, and a zinc-based sunscreen.”

Westchester Dermatologists Explain Common Cosmetic Procedures

Corrective skin care treatments can help patients overcome cosmetic challenges and feel more comfortable in their skin. However, knowing which procedure is right for a specific skin care challenge can be confusing. In fact, two patients with the same condition may not necessarily be given the same treatment. This is due to the fact that producing positive results in cosmetic dermatology requires taking an individualized approach.

To help patients better understand available skin care treatments, Westchester dermatologists from Abadir Associates have put together answers to some commonly asked skin care questions:

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are different brands of botulinium toxin type A, which are very similar, though not the exact same. Cosmetic dermatologists use them to treat wrinkles, including frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines and even vertical neck bands. Both injection treatments are non-invasive and help relax the muscles. Even a small amount of either can help improve lip lines, lift the corners of the mouth, and smooth the chin. A major difference, is that some patients see results more quickly with Dysport than with Botox. Which treatment you ultimately choose will depend on your consultation with your cosmetic dermatologist.

What are filling injections used for?

Filling injections, such as Restylane, Juvederm, Sculptra and Radiesse, do exactly what their name implies: they “fill.” They are often used to fill smile lines, undereye circles, lines at the sides of the chin, and hollows – and they can even be combined with Botox or Dysport treatments for patients with extra deep frown lines. Most fillers last from 6 months to more than a year. However, some patients also have the option for permanent filling injections. To find out whether you are a candidate for this type of treatment, talk to one of Abadir Associates’ qualified Westchester dermatologists.

What is Thermage?

Thermage is a treatment that is used to tighten skin without surgery. It has become increasingly popular over the past years due to vast improvements in the technology. Thermage does not fill wrinkles or relax muscles, but it does help patients see more successful results with Botox and filling injections, as both treatments work much better when the skin is tighter and firmer. Thermage can be used anywhere on the body, including the face and neck, eyelids, hands, thighs , knees, arms, buttocks and abdomen. All tighten significantly with Thermage, and with minimal downtime. Additionally, the treatment can be used in conjunction with “mini liposuction” of jowls and under chin fat.

What are lasers used for in cosmetic skin care?

There are many types of lasers. Some are specific for removing prominent blood vessels, tattoos and dark pigment. Meanwhile, others are used for reducing unwanted hair and removing skin discolorations, fine lines and scarring. At Abadir Associates, we have a variety of lasers for different problems. If you think you could benefit from this technology, ask us and we’ll guide you through it.

Is there a treatment for removing sun or age spots?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a safe and effective treatment that is used to treat sun spots, age spots, and other skin care issues like Rosacea. It can reduce or eliminate the need for make up by making the skin a more even tone, and it can even contribute to a more youthful, creamy complexion. Ask us about IPL and whether it can help your current skin care problem.
