Thermage

What is Thermage?

Thermage is a non-surgical way to tighten excess or sagging skin and restore a youthful appearance. Results are visible after only one treatment and there is almost no downtime after the procedure. Thermage can be used on the skin of the face or body, it leaves no visible scars and results can last for years.

Thermage is an excellent way to treat:

  • Loose skin on the face – such as jowls or sagging neck skin
  • Lack of definition around the lips
  • Tired eyes and eyelids
  • Excess skin on the body after weight loss

From Dr. Michelle Abadir

Taking care of our faces with Botox and fillers has been a boom for the baby boomers, but what can give us away may be our necks and our hands. During the late forties and early fifties, necks start to sag and wrinkle. They develop a collar of red and brown. Hands lose their padding, letting the tendons and the blood vessels stand out. They develop age (or “liver”) spots. So what is to be done?

At Abadir Associates, we have the tools to reverse those changes. A little filler diluted appropriately placed here or there.

A little Thermage to tighten the skin, and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to diminish brown and red, and necks and hands aren’t such a big giveaway any more.

Necks do well with a series of treatments with the filler Sculptra.

Over the series of treatments the concentration of Sculptra becomes gradually higher, allowing the skin to progressively increase collagen density to decrease wrinkling. Performing a Thermage Treatment along the way provides skin tightening and toning to further improve the quality and appearance of neck skin. A series of IPL treatments gets rid of the brown and red that tends to accumulate like a collar at the edges of the neck.

Hands do well with a diluted form the filler Radiesse that plumps out the skin.

Radiesse also increases collagen density to decrease wrinkling. Thermage can also be used to improve the skin quality on hands and tighten skin. Lastly, IPL treatments can diminish the brown spots that develop on hands, too.

Once all is said and done, necks and hands look better.

How Does Thermage Work?

Thermage uses a device that emits radiofrequency waves to stimulate the deep layers of the skin to produce more collagen. This allows the body to fill in sagging skin with its own natural collagen, restoring a youthful appearance. Your results with Thermage may be visible immediately, but they may also improve over time as your body continues to produce new collagen.

What is the Procedure Like?

Dr. Abadir will use a hand-held device to pass radio-frequency waves over the skin. The procedure usually takes around an hour, and only one treatment is necessary to see results. There are no special preparations or pre-procedure tests as with surgical procedures.

Some may experience mild swelling for a week after having Thermage, but many others experience no side effects. Results are often visible immediately, but as the treatment stimulates collagen production they may be more marked over time as the skin continues to produce more collagen.
