What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is the removal of unwanted fat from certain areas of the body to sculpt your figure to your liking. Liposuction can be performed on many areas of the neck and body, but it is most commonly done on the hips, thighs, buttocks and stomach. While diet and exercise are excellent ways to reduce the overall amount of fat on the body, there is no way to “spot-reduce” fat – i.e. no amount of crunches will remove excess fat on the abdominals. Many people choose liposuction to remove this diet-resistant fat and give themselves a boost of confidence that they deserve.
Who is a Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is suitable for adults of all ages with unwanted fat deposits. Results will be best if there is minimal excess skin over the area to be treated and if it is still fairly elastic. Areas suitable for treatment with liposuction include:
- “Love Handles”
- Breasts – including male qynecomastia
How does Lipo Work?
Your cosmetic dermatologist will place a tiny incision in an inconspicuous location on the body, then insert a suction tube called a cannula under the skin. A vacuum attached to the tube sucks out excess fat, and your dermatologist can sculpt the area and remove exactly as much fat as you desire. Depending on the area and extent of treatment, patients usually experience a few weeks of recovery time. Pain, bruising and some swelling are all normal and should subside within a month of the procedure.
Beautiful, Permanent Lipo Results
Your results with liposuction of the neck and body will be permanent. After puberty, the human body does not produce many new adipose (fat storage) cells – when we gain weight, we simply begin to store more fat in the adipose cells that we already have. Liposuction removes the fat cells, and the body will be unable to store more fat in that area even if the patient gains a little bit of weight.
